BROCKHOLES VISITOR CENTRE, LANCASHIRE

Client: Lancashire Wildlife Trust

Architect: Adam Khan Architects

Value: £7M

James was the Structural Lead for this RIBA competition winning project with Adam Khan Architects, the only floating building of its kind in the UK.

A reinforced concrete pontoon supports the Centre's five buildings, rising and falling with the water level. Each building is made from a geometric pattern of carefully designed glulam portal frames. Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) form the outer skin, providing a high level of insulation and air-tightness.

Completed in 2011 whilst at Price & Myers.

Awards: RIBA National Award 2012; RIBA North West Sustainability Award 2012; Wood Award 2011; Civic Trust Award & Special Award for Sustainability 2012;
